There has been a lot said about “real nerd girls” versus “fake nerd girls”. I have chimed in on this in the past but there is another aspect of this that is more insidious. IMHO anyone who has an interest and goes to a con or goes to a comic book shop, even if it is the first day ever is one of us, because everyone one of us wandered in for the first time. Even one of my favorite cosplayers Roxanna Meta of http://roxannameta.tumblr.com had to start somewhere, so lets welcome everyone.

Girls awkwardly posed on comic books in sexy outfits are most likely not geek girls, and worst of all SHE IS WRECKING THOSE COMICS!!!! But let us not engage in derogatory comments meant to shame or humiliate. This form of “slut shaming” is only meant to be mean and negative. We nerds have been shamed enough ourselves, let us not turn the sword of our enemies upon others.

You know, part of the appeal of pinup girls is that while they’re a fantasy, they still represent someone sexy you could imagine in your very own home. The pinup girl baking? The pinup girl with the kitten? The pinup girl playing video games? It makes perfect sense to me! Sure a lot of them are posers - they’re modeling, or amateurs playing at modeling, and they just happened to pick geekdom as a popular setting. I, personally, don’t see anything wrong with that.

I hate cosplayers like this. At this stage, its not about the costume or the character anymore, its about their “oo soh sexay boday”. And no, this is not about jealousy - I can eat what ever I want without apperance pressure. Cause i dont care. :D

Hate? That’s pretty strong, given that we’ve never met. I’m trying to understand where such a strong emotion is coming from, cause even if jealousy or body-image was an issue it should never warrant ‘hate’. The costume, while undeniably sexy in design, is entirely accurate to the character, so it’s not even like I’m twisting the image of a beloved character. Perhaps you need to redefine ‘hate’. How is he not powerful and personable? HOW IS HE SUSPICIOUS? Because he isn’t clean shaven? Because he’s in a hoodie (which, you know, is the point of the movement)? Because hes black? Yeah, I’m pretty sure its the last one.
